چکیده

This paper examines asymptotic equivalence in the sense of Le Cam between density estimation experiments and the accompanying Poisson experiments. The significance of asymptotic equivalence is that all asymptotically optimal statistical procedures can be carried over from one experiment to the other. The equivalence given here is established under a weak assumption on the parameter space F . In particular, a sharp Besov smoothness condition is given on F which is sufficient for Poissonization, namely, if F is in a Besov ball B p,q(M) with αp > 1/2. Examples show Poissonization is not possible whenever αp < 1/2. In addition, asymptotic equivalence of the density estimation model and the accompanying Poisson experiment is established for all compact subsets of C([0,1]), a condition which includes all Hölder balls with smoothness α> 0.

Some thoughts on Le Cam ’ s statistical decision theory

The paper contains some musings about the abstractions introduced by Lucien Le Cam into the asymptotic theory of statistical inference and decision theory. A short, self-contained proof of a key result (existence of randomizations via convergence in distribution of likelihood ratios), and an outline of a proof of a local asymptotic minimax theorem, are presented as an illustration of how Le Cam...

Autoregression Approximation of a Nonparametric Diiusion Model

We consider a model of small diiusion type where the function which governs the drift term varies in a nonparametric set. We investigate discrete versions of this continuous model with respect to statistical equivalence, in the sense of the asymptotic theory of experiments. It is shown that an Euler diierence scheme as a discrete version of the stochastic diierential equation is asymptotically ...

Diusion approximation for nonparametric autoregression

A nonparametric statistical model of small di€usion type is compared with its discretization by a stochastic Euler di€erence scheme. It is shown that the discrete and continuous models are asymptotically equivalent in the sense of Le Cam's de®ciency distance for statistical experiments, when the discretization step decreases with the noise intensity . An Asymptotically Optimal Adaptive Selection Procedure in the Proportional Hazards Model wirh Conditionally Independent Censoring

Assume k independent populations are given which are distributed according to RJ1 ; . . . ;RJk …Ji 2 Q R†. Taking samples of size n the population with the smallest J-value is to be selected. Using the framework of Le Cam's decision theory (Le Cam, 1986; Strasser, 1985) under mild regularity assumptions, an asymptotically optimal selection procedure is derived for the sequence of localized mode...

Asymptotic EÆciency in Parametric Structural Models with Parameter-Dependent Support

In certain auction, search, and related models, the boundary of the support of the observed data depends on some of the parameters of interest. For such nonregular models, standard asymptotic distribution theory does not apply. Previous work has focused on characterizing the nonstandard limiting distributions of particular estimators in these models. In contrast, we study the problem of constru...
